Watching friends argue.

Good morning! A little explanation for the title of my diary seems to be in order. I came to Daily Kos, back when I found it, I guess around 2008, not really sure, I read for a long while before ever posting, I do remember that. I’m not an “Old Timer” or  “Newbie” Just one of the many mid term types that came, saw something worthwhile and stayed.

Now, I’m an independent, but I am definitely friendly toward the democratic party. There just are not any Republican positions I do not either totally disagree with or at the very least can’t support the scope or the implementation of a policy the Republicans have that I might in part agree with.

I lived through March 15th. I have my opinions and I have my favorites. Let’s just say I saw my own words becoming inflamed, and in the spirit of trying to be a good guest, I stopped writing and simply came here to read for awhile.

Reading the stories and the comments from my…. liberal friends.

It’s been a difficult thing. I won’t go into whom I support, that is not the direction these words are meant to take- I will vote, it will be for a liberal. Seeing as how I consider the democratic party to be a “Liberal leaning” party, I think I can leave it there.

What’s disconcerting is simply reading what’s being written and then watching the “Discussions” in the room as I stand with my back to the wall, kind of unnoticed and sipping my retro coffee. (Clay brown mug, two sugars, old fashioned fresh cream)

You guys are ripping each other’s entrails out! I know, I know, I shouldn’t be speaking too loudly- I started down the same path, mea culpa and all that. But I’m SUPPOSED to be on the sidelines. I’m a like minded fellow who you let come in the house for a cup of coffee- those of you in the house, living there, you guys look like the worst case of family feud ever, ever, ever.

Out and out insults to people who not more than a year ago were your blood brothers, passive aggressive snottiness to sisters who are saying the same things you are, with a couple of very, very fine differences.

It’s painful, really, it is, and I’m not writing this to try and change it, I’m just writing it to get it off my chest. When I, an independent, think of the groups of people that form the parties, I think of qualities I can always expect to see come through with a certain group.

Greed, self aggrandizement, selfish spite, a lack of world view and a willingness to utterly destroy your opponent using any means available- Yeah, that’s Republicans for me.

Those I expect to keep hold of humility, vision for a better world, fairness even in competition, the idea that we are all men and women in the same boat, tempers can flare but we don’t forget... Just has always seemed to end up being the democrats.

But I’m missing it nowadays, and I don’t want to miss it, I want there to be a group of “Good guys” to balance the group of  Bad, bad, fuggin’ EVIL guys.”

I see a lot about how y’all “...need to come back together for the GE...” and I think  “Maybe, don’t get pulled so far apart, don’t forget, you guys are fighting to make a better world, not inflate your own bank statement and faux importance?” Please, in your fervor, don’t slide down into what the other side is.

I don’t know, I just needed to say it. The other side winning anything this election is truly a horrific scenario. I think every sane human in this country is aware of that.  And I think most of us are going to do the right thing, passions and misgivings aside. There really IS a lot riding on this election.

But can at least one of the two big parties remember “Liberté , égalité , fratenité ?”

It’s kind of who you are.
